Candle Safety and Burning Tips

Thank you for choosing Orla Soy Candles. Handcrafted from 100% soy wax - made from soy beans, a natural, renewable, biodegradable resource. We use only premium essential oils/fragrances and 100% cotton wicks. Please follow these helpful hints to ensure maximum safety and clean burning of your candle.

Keep wick trimmed to 1/4"- 3/8" and centered for a cleaner burn. Keep wax free of wick trimmings. On the first burn the melt pool must reach the edge of the container. This sets the memory of the candle so it will not tunnel. Make sure you have 3-4 hrs to let the candle burn to the edge. If the candle is burning to one side, center the wick with a spoon by nudging the wick towards the opposite side and/or turn the candle away from the draft.

Place candle on a heat resistant surface . Keep away from drafts, open windows, ceiling fans, vents, pets, children and flammable objects. Keeping the burning candle away from drafts will help prevent uneven burning and smoking.

Do not burn under a cupboard or shelf. This inhibits the amount of oxygen that is getting to the wick and will cause black soot to form on container. It is also dangerous.

Mushrooms, that may form on the top of the wicks, are carbon deposits found on candles that are burning longer than the recommended time. Trim these off and keep them out of the melt pool for a more efficient clean burn.

If the wick becomes too long, or an air current disturbs the flame, small amounts of unburned carbon particles (soot) may escape from the flame as a visible wisp of smoke. Any candle will soot if the flame is disturbed or the wick needs to be trimmed. Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4".

Our candles come with burning directions on the bottom of the container. Please follow the directions on the bottom of each candle.

Are you a 'Marathon Burner'? One who burns the candle for more than the recommended time?...like all day? As the candle burns down the wax level goes down...in turn, more wick is exposed and needs to be trimmed back to 1/4" to keep the flame at a safe size and the wick working at optimum performance. It's best to follow the directions for a better, safer burn.

Stop burning the candle when 1/4"of wax remains in the bottom of the container. This will prevent the container from getting too hot and damaging your table. Always burn your candles on a heat resistant surface.

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish candle before going to sleep!
